[ ] [ See web pages that have disappeared! ]

Welcome to mini-exhibit of selected webpages from this website as it/they looked in July 1997.

If you compare these 1997 pages with their present versions, now more than thirteen years -- more than a decade -- later, you may see that they have evolved a lot in detail (thru dozens of revisions!), but still they are "the same basic thing" (which is a reason I have not displayed more of these antique pages...).

(Note: About the chair to relax and study what's here in, at top left of Home page (and also here[ Check out chair! ]): I found this clipart chair in late February 1997, and have been looking for a better transparent gif about the same size ever since, but have not found one. I would prefer something like a leather arm-chair.) [Home icon date: 17 February 1997]

(Note that, in July 1997, the visual site map was not yet "backed up" by the Table of Contents page, which now provides a more comprehensive overview of what's here.) If you entered the past from my June 1997 Dissertation Abstract/Table of Contents page, please click here to return to my Dissertation Abstract/Table of Contents page in the present. (How this page has changed illustrates how this website has become more elaborate, and perhaps even cluttered with icons and other things in the intervening years.)

[ ]4. If you entered the past from my April 1997 Duty of Communicators page, please click here to return to my Duty of Communicators page in the present. (This page illustrates how pages keep accumulating more and more adjunctive material over the years. Note also that in 1997 I had not yet begun to use the lighthouse icon in page footers to the left of the page id info, as below left). [Lighthouse icon date: 28 December 1996]

[no icon]   [ ]5. A page still active in the website, but that still looks much as it did in Spring 1997, because I have never "reworked" or restructured it, is: "Essays". However, as of 03 March 2004, I have "framed" its contents.

[ Dates of early digital photos ]
[ ]6. Four of my early digital photographs, from January 1997, taken with Olympus D-300L digital camera (page itself is basically similar to, but evolved from what it looked like then). More of my digital pictures from Jan-Feb 1997: reproductions of my envelope art envelopes. (More info[ Read more about my early experience with digital photography! ])

[no icon]   [ ]7. Mouse cartoons. I drew the cartoons themselves on a piece of paper (a Hollerith card...), in 1978. I made a digital photo of the drawing (30Jan97), and created this webpage in February 1997. This is the oldest version I can still find of any page on this website: 18Feb97.

Oldest reliably datable file in this website, is an archive backup of an early version of the Perl script for guestbook entry submission, timestamped: 10 Dec 1996 17:12EDT (View document). The first (oldest) guestbook entry itself, is dated: 03 December 1996 -- I started working on this website while taking the Pace University Unix certificate course, and actually developed some of the pages during class time. The oldest guestbook entry by a person other than myself is from another student in that class: 04Dec96[ See oldest guestbook entries on this website! ]

"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thes. 5:21)

In Spring 1997, my job was to develop and maintain a large educational website for a Digital Library in the Classroom project. One thing I implemented there was a multi-link facility, where, when the user clicked on a hyperlink in the text, instead of going to a specific URL, the program would pop up a dialog containing a list of descriptions of several URLs, among which the user could choose which one to go to (Click here to see example). I think it is a shame HTML does not have this functionality.
